Crypto Raiders and the Talebian wet dream
Crypto raiders is a Talebian Wet Dream that uses the power of Web3 to build a game that you love to play and happen to make money doing it.
Disclosure:
I own 7 Raiders, 4 MOBS, 2 Mounts, and I have a fair amount of $RAIDER staked.
If you have no idea what this means, buckle up because your mind is about to be blown.
THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE!
Sit back sweetly into your childhood and remember all of the adventures you went on as you explored the lands of #Kanto and #Johto.
We learned the value of courage, friendship, loss, and hope on these tiny pixelated screens.
Yes, I am talking about Pokemon on Game Boy
This is an apt metaphor when explaining Crypto Raiders because the graphics are similar. The current gameplay is a simpler version of a Pokemon battle. But, the community, the story, and the game structure feel as if we are on the edge of another cultural phenomenon.
I spent so much of my youth battling it out, investing in, and genuinely caring about a set of pixels that didn't belong to me. Gamefi breaks the paradigm of my childhood experience.
What if, with all of those hours spent, I also was rewarded monetarily for my skills, for my time, and my knowledge?
That world is knocking at our door.
Here is where the similarities between Crypto Raiders and Pokemon ends.
The raider characters are NFT's.
I own this level 8 Blue Elf.
I have invested days of my life into her, and that time and knowledge have increased the monetary value of the elf.
This simple change fundamentally shifts the relationship between the gamer and the game.
This is very similar to what we are trying to build with STOA.
The creative opportunities to build game dynamics into a functioning economy that come with this simple shift are mind-boggling, and Crypto Raiders has taken that cross and built the beginnings of an empire.
The way that the team has built the game will be a case study for Web3 for generations to come.
I swear I am not getting paid to say this, but it just feels like they have done everything right and with intention.
They haven't gone the route of paying massive influencers to promote their NFT's or tokens.
They didn't collab with a famous analog artist who doesn't give a fuck about the promises of web3
They haven't tried to do everything in their power to increase the floor of the Raider NFT's...
In many ways, they did the exact opposite...
Every decision they have made appears to be focused on creating a fantastic game, finding ways that web3 makes creating that game possible.
The ethos that Crypto Raiders embodies is permissionless.
They were a group of semi-pseudonymous friends who pooled a bit of money together and built a game.
They didn't ask permission from:
Venture Capitalists
Riot
Sony
Or anyone else. And if they had, they very likely would have been turned down.
This doesn't just feel like a web3 game.
Crypto Raiders is a fully native Web3 project, not built on the hype of crypto but enabled to become a reality because of the mechanics of web3.
The team has built a fully functioning economy in 6 months through deliberate work, community airdrops, and thoughtful mechanics.
Two features that I think highlight this the best are:
MOBS can be thought of as the boss villains of the game.
In most games, these are NPC's that inspire fright and admiration.
Because of the technology at hand, @crypto_raiders decided to shift this idea radically.
They airdropped MOBS to holders in the community as NFT's.
Tweet 17:
Now we own the villains, and when your bad guy defeats a Raider character, you earn $$$.
You do not need to "Stake" the NFT, and you do not need to play as the MOB. All you need to do is own it and earn income.
This might become one of the best passive income plays in #gamefi
Mounts are horse-based NFT's that allow you to speed up your questing time.
You can think of a quest as farming for an item in typical gameplay dynamics.
In #web3 dynamics, you can think of a quest as staking your NFT's and receiving ERC-20 tokens in return.
Having a mount like this one supercharges the speed you farm or the effective APR at which you receive rewards.
As the economy builds and the game complexity deepens, it is difficult to imagine the value of these mounts.
In celebration of this podcast drop, I will giveaway one mount, one mob, and one raider character.
