Extreme Art with my favorite Extreme Sport Athlete Collin Robb
Five Lesson's from my podcast with Collin Robb
Your Superpower Might Appear Like A Weakness - Collin struggled with ADHD as a kid. His brain moved faster than life could keep up. His father never lost faith in him and, instead of trying to force Collin into a system that wasn't working, showed high agency and found something that could keep Collin's attention: racing.
Make The Decision And Follow Through - One of the most obvious traits I see in my super successful friends is they make a decision and follow through. Collin is an absolute testament to this. From skydiving world championships with a concussion to deciding to wake up at 5 AM every day and train, he doesn't constantly fight his plans with tiny micro-decisions around optimization. He wakes up, he shows up, he wins.
You Are Capable Of So Much More Than You Know - If you pick something you love and try really hard at it, you can accomplish greatness. Most of the inadequacies we feel in life come from our inability to just keep going on the task we set out to do. We let other people’s desires get in our way. Keep prioritizing the life you want, before you know it you will be living it.
Extreme Sports In Nature Are The Greatest Teacher - Life isn’t static. A lot of society would prefer us to do a specific thing, but that is a recipe to be replaced. Humans are unique because of our ability to take highly complex things and build clarity out of that complexity. There is no better way to learn high agency in complex environments than extreme sports in nature.
Extreme Sports Are High Art - This might be a contrarian take but extreme sports are one of the highest forms of Art and Collin is an Artist. At the extremes there is no phoning it in, their is only applied discipline, creativity, and deathly consequences
