A few of you might have noticed that the majority of the podcast is now free. This is something I said I would never do. So what changed?
Two major things changed.
I have gotten good enough at the medium within my private garden, and like Ash leaving Pallet Town, it is time for me to explore Kanto and embark on the grand adventure that is the internet. I want to make a product that is so good that people who haven’t met me want to pay $12 a month for it. And to build that product, I have been casually working on my podcasting abilities for the last 6 years. I have built a studio environment that is an absolute dream, and we have built our team jerseys (merch line coming soon) so we can look dope as fuck doing it.
In order to meme my ideas into reality, I need to have some amount of access to attention on the internet. I have never thought subscription models were the end-all of media monetization; it was just an option that is available now. Staying dogmatic in this way was hurting my ability to create the future I want to see and not helping it. I can’t build these new models on my own, so I need to decrease the friction to fucking with me. And that is where having more content for me to cook with will increase my serendipity surface area and lead to finding my jihad.
We will still never do paid ads. We will still monetize through the subscription model, but we are also experimenting with the merch line; we will experiment with live streaming; maybe we will experiment with vibe coding an app. Idk, but I am excited to get my ideas tested by more minds, learn more, create more, and seize the mf day.
